Why do theme nights?

Players (and hosts) LOVE themed trivia nights. We are always fielding suggestions from our players about which themes they want to play. We also see lots of new faces - plenty of people who aren’t “trivia” people turn up to celebrate their favorite show/movie/artist.

We have TWO categories of themes for you to choose from: Featured or Rerun.

Featured Themes

Every month we Feature two fresh themes. You can sign up for either or both themes each month! These must take place during the specified month. We like to choose topics that we’ve never done before, or that are broad enough we couldn’t cover everything in our first run.

Feature Themes get you:
- Marketing assets: social media graphics plus we print and ship you five posters
- Social media support via shout-outs on our platforms, and visibility on our web page (which is linked in paid Meta ads)
- Mentions in our daily and theme night newsletters and on our website
- Slideshow always available if you have the set-up
- One of our awesome hosts
- The very best questions on the theme, of course

Rerun Themes

We also have a rotating list of Rerun Themes available, based on which prior themes proved most popular, and what players have been clamoring to bring back. Note: These are the same sets of questions that have been previously used as featured themes. A given Theme will only become available as a Rerun when at least six months have passed since it was Featured. We want to prevent trivia players from hearing repeat questions if we can, since it’s a bummer for them to show up and hear the same game they already played. For this reason, if your venue has run a given Theme in the past year, we ask that you do not sign up for it again.

Rerun Themes get you:
- Flexible scheduling - pick a date and time anytime from now through six months from now (just give us two weeks’ notice).
- Digital assets delivered by email to use online and/or print, however suits your needs.
- One of our excellent hosts to run the show.
- Option to add a Slideshow (+$50) to put up on screens during the game, with the question text and enhanced visual flair.

For either Featured or Rerun, you'll supply:

- Prizes (same as regular trivia - $30/$20/$10 gift cards or equivalent value items. Getting theme prizes is optional and awesome.)
- Payment to Trivia Mafia on the morning after the event ($175, as of Oct 1)
- Registration for your site, if desired (we are telling players it will be free to play, but if you want to ask for RSVPs that is legit - and totally optional!)

NOTE: Theme Nights cannot replace your regular night of trivia. These theme games are offered as bonus events to fill up your calendar and invite new customers into the trivia world, NOT to interrupt the regularly scheduled programming. Booking a theme night on your regularly scheduled trivia night can confuse, frustrate, and/or annoy regular players. So when you pick a date, make sure it falls on a different day of the week than your usual game. Remember: A large proportion of theme night participants are not regular trivia players!

A note about "Harry Potter" theme events: We regularly get requests to run “Harry Potter” theme nights, and have done so in the past. However, in light of the increasing transphobia from the author, we just can’t do it anymore. We love the source material as much as anyone, making this a very difficult decision, but we value our trans players and employees over these books and movies. Thank you for understanding.
