Today is July 18. On this day in 64 AD, Rome burned to the ground. The Emperor at the time, shown in a bust below, was rumored to have fiddled while his city burned. He was also rumored to have set the fire himself in order to rebuild it to his taste. However, he wasn't even in Rome at the time, he gave his palace over to survivors of the fire to shelter them, and moreover the fiddle itself wouldn't be invented for another 800 years.
