Today is October 18. On this day in 1767, two English surveyors named Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon finished drawing a line along 39' 43" latitude. They were hired to do this by two feuding families who had been fighting over the border between their respective colonies (and, of course, the line went on to symbolize the divide between the North and South years later). They marked their line stones like the one shown here. These stones were placed every 5 miles, and were marked with the seals of the two families who had the line drawn. What were the names of those two families?
